Excerpts from the words of the late Charles Konan Banny, former PM of Côte d'Ivoire and first Chairman of Groupe Initiative Afrique at the constitutive AGM on June 2, 2012:
“If we insisted on the creation of this Group, it’s because there’s a real gap in Africa: we don’t think enough!
We’re not the least gifted at this, but the problem is coming together, reflecting, and creating synergy: how can we identify the real questions we face, how can we achieve the optimum?! We must not be timid; we must be open. We also have something to contribute to Global Governance.
The smaller we are economically, the stronger we must be intellectually.
We have the intellectual capacity to be part of this world and to initiate the transgressions and ruptures that may be necessary.
There is a challenge and an opportunity for Africans to participate unashamedly and as equals in the “universal banquet” – as Senghor said.”
